Beauty Post

I get a lot of questions asking what sort of beauty regemin I have, and although it's pretty informal, (honestly, I barely brush my hair in the morning), I do have a couple favorite products that make doing so little turn out to be so much... at least in my case.  My family has been using Aveda since I was little, and although I've tried dabbling in other haircare products over the years, time and time again I've found myself returning to the one line I love. The shampure products not only smell amazing but work wonders. It's Aveda's basic all-hair type shampoo/conditioner and it's honestly the best... although they do have other amazing lines for color treated, curly or thicker manes. I also am a huge believer in the Damage Control spray. It's amazing for detangling right after you get out of the shower. For those of you in Los Angeles go visit the Aveda at the Beverly Center and ask for Ron-- he'll completely hook you up and help you out. Aveda Botani

Staying in Malibu with Jonah's family for a couple days was the best mini-vacation within the summer vacation. It was filled with plenty of swimming, painting, reading and watermelon eating. Here are some photos from the trip. American Apparel floral print bustier swimsuit , American Apparel scrunchie and Jonah's vintage shirt Jonah and I's tempera/watercolor paint creation This vintage 70s kaftan is my latest thriftstore find-- it came from one of my favorite Goodwills in Hollywood. The rope detailing is the best part; it's what makes it just right. Without it the whole thing would be too shapeless to wear. The  Madewell Boardwalk sandals  were great for the beach There was plenty of watermelon to go around that weekend. The owner of the house we stayed in had two mermaid tails stored away in the garage. I figured this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a mermaid.  The tail matched perfectly with my lavender American Apparel

On Thursday I stopped in on a Kelly Wearstler sample sale located at the Cooper Building in Downtown LA. In addition to two blue and green kaftans, I also managed to pick up these stunning-- and huge-- necklaces for an amazing markdown. I never wear heavy metal pieces like this, (I prefer thin gold chains or single silver pendants), but these two were too amazing to pass up. I'm planning on pairing them with silk shirts or chunky knit sweaters so they can really nestle into the garments. I've honestly been thinking of different ways to wear them all weekend.   Kelly Wearstler fossil and egg necklaces

Feeling Blue

I picked up this vintage flower tee at the Fairfax Flea Market when I went with my best friends a couple weekends ago; the print reminds me of something Murakami would do. I don't normally wear t-shirts so this piece was definitely out of the ordinary, but I figured it'd go perfectly with these cobalt jeans. Sometimes, dressing in one predominant color is a good thing, but it's important to balance it out with other complementary shades on the color wheel.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go pack for the beach. I'm taking a little vacation away from interning and spending the weekend with Jonah in Malibu. I love the ocean, I cant wait!  Madewell boardwalk sandal , vintage flower shirt, Verameat gold claw necklace, Swatch cream watch,  American Apparel Easy Jean and scrunchie.

When I was younger I used to be so confused/afraid when it came to see-through pieces of clothing. A chiffon skirt? Are they supposed to see my underwear? A sheer shirt?  What do you put underneath ? I guess the natural maturing process has allowed me greater insight into the whole ordeal. Although I believe some pieces require more complicated coverups, sometimes all that's needed is a super handy and versatile slip. I've had these two romantic  Free People  dresses in my wardrobe for some time now and it was only until I bought this nude jersey piece could I finally wear them. I've also found that vintage silk sheaths--the ones you've see in every antique shop-- can really do the trick, (like the one I wore  here .) Now that I sorta have this whole slip thing down I plan on tackling lace bras. I'll let you know how it goes! I bought this lavender dress a year and a half ago when I went on my East Coast college trip. I remember sitting in the Philadelphia train sta

The Uniform in Action

After the fourth, my mom and I spent the day doing some dangerous recreational shopping in between running errands and a late evening viewing of World War Z. This crop top and high waisted shorts pairing has basically been my uniform these past couple weeks; I'm having enormous amounts of fun mixing and matching different colored tops, (like marbled grey and white), together with different bottoms, (like circle skirts and jeans). You'll probably see a couple more renditions before summer's end. I was definitely one of those early risers who rushed to H&M at 7 am the day the Marni collection came out about a year ago. Although I came home with three pretty basic items, I've had trouble wearing the pieces. When I finally put this classic silk shirt on over my "uniform" it felt like a Eureka! moment. Now I can't imagine wearing anything else. It drapes perfectly and is a very good alternative to the light summer jacket. Lately I've been piling on the

Sometime last week I put aside an hour during the workday and shot several pieces for American Apparel's vintage line California Select. The aesthetic of the brand requires very bare bones modeling. Not much movement is necessary, in the face or otherwise. It's kind of refreshing to just face the camera and pose a little. Refreshing... and strange. Here are a couple shots that came out-- more to come soon. Hope everyone had a great Fourth of July! If you're still feeling patriotic go buy the stars and stripes knit tank in the third photo. I am totally infatuated with these JuJu jelly sandals; I've been wearing them everywhere. I decided to experiment a little with a photo reflector I had lying around so I picked up my camera and tried my best to capture the dazzling embedded sparkles. Here are the results! xox JuJu sandals via American apparel (also available here and here )
